As previously reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the proposed scheme on land to the south of Barrowby Lane in Garforth attracted significant local opposition.

City councillor Mark Dobson (Lab, Garforth & Swillington) and a number of the town’s residents raised concerns including a potential increase in traffic levels and the possible effect of more competition on existing independent traders on Main Street.

Opposition to the discount retail giant’s planning application also came from experts at Leeds City Council’s highways department.
