Stanningley Bypass was shut in both directions after police were called at about 1.10pm.

The ambulance and fire and rescue services also received calls after concerns were raised for the man, who was spotted above the dual carriageway near the exit for the Pudsey branch of Wickes trade supplies.

A police negotiator was also called and the man was helped to safety at about 2.45pm when the road was reopened.
