Leeds sky lit up in '˜Super Blue Moon' lunar spectacle

The blue moon, defined as the second full moon in a calendar month, occurred for the first time since July 2015.

But it was also a supermoon, meaning the Earth’s natural satellite appears 14 per cent bigger and 30 per cent brighter in the sky as it reaches its closest point to us.

Wet weather was forecast across parts of the UK and Ireland, with fears that conditions could dampen spirits during the rare event.

However the space show could be seen at various points across the Yorkshire region, including Leeds and Hull.
