Motorists are being warned diversions will be in place around Leeds this evening as the city prepares to sparkle.

The Headrow, Cookridge Street and Calverley Street will be among those affected as thousands of people gather for the return of the annual Christmas lights switch on.

Local X Factor favourite Bupsi will be joined by Britain’s Got Talent winners Collabro for the switch-on this evening. And there will also be an appearance from 911 boy band singer Lee Brennan, who is set to star in a production of Aladdin at Leeds’s Carriageworks arts complex.

The Leeds Rock Choir will also sing a selection of well-known hits along with a Christmas medley including original vocal arrangements.

The Leeds Light switch-on marks the official start of the city’s Magical Leeds campaign which will feature a number of special events and activities including the annual Christkindelmarkt on Millennium Square.
