Leeds set for jobs bonanza

Thousands of jobs are set to be created in the Leeds city region with construction projects worth £13bn to the local economy set to be delivered in just three years.

A new report out today reveals how major new housing, frastructure and commercial building projects are set to create 13,000 
jobs by 2019, with the search now on to find the talented workers needed to make these developments happen.

The Leeds South Bank development in particular was cited by the report’s authors, the Construction Industry Training Board, as being an area for growth, with more than 2,000 bricklayers, 3,000 painters and decorators, and 4,000 process managers needed around the area.

Gerald Jennings, president of Leeds Chamber, told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “This uplifting research highlights the fantastic opportunities available across our region for young 
people.”

Roger Marsh chairman of the LEP said: “With £13 billion of major construction projects in the pipeline for the next 3 years, we are set to grow further, bringing investor confidence in our economy and employment opportunities for local people.”
