Leeds scores highly for UK's cheapest pints

A survey of the most student-friendly cities in the UK has found that Leeds has some of the country's cheapest pints.

Digital Loft compiled an alternative university league table based on five criteria considered important for modern students.

Each city was ranked on its crime rate, the average graduate salary, sustainability, the price of a pint and its LGBTQ friendliness.

Leeds came second for the affordability of a night out - with a pint costing £2.50, below the national average of £3. Only Hull and Coventry, which came joint-top, had cheaper drinks.

The university's LGBTQ scene also scored highly, with Leeds in eighth position in the national rankings for factors such as diversity, support and resources. Canterbury and Guildford were deemed to be the most welcoming.

Graduates of the University of Leeds earn on average £41,000 during their working lives - putting them in 13th place behind Cambridge graduates, who can expect to earn £69,000 once established in a career.

When it comes to the crime rate, Leeds placed 24th, with an average of 14.4 incidents per 1,000 residents. Dundee in Scotland is the safest student city.

And Leeds ranked 18th for sustainability, which takes into account factors such as workers' rights, environmental policies and the availability of ethical food.
