Pupils from Allerton High School, Lawnswood School and The South Leeds Academy are among five schools vying to be crowned Yorkshire’s finest in the Enterprise Challenge at Headingley on Wednesday.

The flagship education initiative is being run by mentoring charity Mosaic, which was founded by The Prince in 2007 to help young people from deprived backgrounds realise their potential.

The final at the Carnegie Pavilion will see the teams go head-to-head in front of a prestigious panel of judges, including Legal365.com founder Ajaz Ahmed and award-winning social entrepreneur Dr Wakkas Khan.

The winning team will then aim for national glory at the Enterprise Challenge grand final in London on May 4.

The annual Enterprise Challenge is a national competition that aims to inspire knowledge, raise aspirations, confidence and long-term employability among secondary school pupils from some of the most deprived communities across the UK. It is supported by specialist, volunteer mentors from across the business community.

Students compete for six weeks in an online business game where they must develop, market and sell a new product.

Mosaic’s Yorkshire regional manager Leah Larkin said: “The standard of teams from across Yorkshire was higher than ever this year and proof that the young people in our region, whatever their background, are a source of pride and excitement about the future.

“I’m really looking forward to the regional final and discovering which of our schools will be going to the grand final for a chance to be crowned national champion.”
