dancers from Cockburn School went back to the jazz age to win a rock competition.

The pupils’ rendition of ‘Gatsby’ on Thursday earned them top spot in the senior section of the Be Your Best Rock Challenge and J Rock at Magna in Rotherham.

The team’s exciting but accurate retelling of F Scott Fitzgerald’s story won them a place in the Northern Open Final in Grimsby in July.

Allerton Grange School students also took part in Rotherham and they were praised for their ‘Stand up for the Arts’ show. Mervyn Bishop, vice chairman of the Be Your Best Foundation, said: “It has been absolutely brilliant being here in Yorkshire for three nights. The audiences have been fantastic but the students have been even better.”
