LEEDS Roller Dolls narrowly missed out on taking home a trophy in the final of a new tournament for northern roller derby leagues.

The Northern Series saw Leeds take on three of the highest ranking teams in the north at numerous fixtures between July and November,

Leeds, who train at the Futsal Arena, faced Middlesbrough Milk Rollers in the final, while Manchester’s Rainy City Roller Girls took on Newcastle Roller Girls for third and fourth place.

Saturday’s final, which took place in Newcastle, was won by Middlesbrough, 133 points to 114, after a nail biting game.

Hayley Avron, captain of the Dolls’ A team the Rebel Roses, said: “We knew it was going to be a tough game and that Middlesbrough would really be gunning for us with us beating them in the last round. I’m really proud of our performance, it’s another stepping stone in our progress towards playing in the USA next year.”
