Leeds Rhinos legend Jamie Peacock tackles running challenge for good cause

Now rugby legend Jamie Peacock is set to tackle another sporting challenge in the shape of next month’s Leeds Half Marathon.

Jamie, who played for the Rhinos from 2006 to 2015, is competing to raise funds for the appeal set up by the late Leeds cancer heroine and amateur athlete Jane Tomlinson.

And today he told how the knowledge that he is following in her footsteps and helping others would drive him on during the race, which is being held on Sunday, May 13.

Jamie said: “I’ve taken part in the Leeds Half Marathon before and I don’t think it will be any easier!

“I can’t think of a better reason for running, though, than to support the Jane Tomlinson Appeal – and the legacy of an incredibly inspirational woman.

“If anyone can spare a bit of change to support me as I grimace around the route, I’d be really grateful.”

Like Jamie, many of the 9,000 people signed up for next month’s race will be raising money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Appeal fundraising manager Katie Bell said: “We’re so incredibly grateful for their brilliant backing in helping us to support children’s well-being and people affected by cancer.”

The race is being organised by Run For All, the events company which works to build on Jane’s legacy.
