Leeds Pride of Place fundraiser

A Leeds business community showing its support for Leeds Pride by organising its first LGBT+ charity fundraising month.

Wellington Place, a city centre business community of more than 4,000 people, and MEPC, the site’s property investment and development firm, will launch Pride of Place to raise funds for Yorkshire MESMAC and Leeds LGBT+ Sports Fringe Festival. The dedicated pride-themed month will start after the Leeds Pride celebrations on Sunday, August 5.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a street food and music fair with LGBT+ stands, lunchtime fitness sessions held by inclusive sporting groups, a themed canal run, and a Leeds BID-sponsored outdoor screening of box office hit Love, Simon followed by a mass karaoke. The events are free, with donations encouraged for the two charities.

Dominique Simcox, marketing manager at MEPC, said: “This is something incredibly close to my heart and we are thrilled to be able to help with providing a month of fantastic activities for our Wellington Place customers and the wider community. Pride of Place embodies everything that we aspire to be in the heart of the Leeds business district and we’ve been amazed at how much support we’ve already received. It was our customers here at Wellington Place who first asked this, led by the LGBT+ staff network at Sky Betting and Gaming.”

To launch the month, people across the city created a giant Pride flag in Tower Square. The Wellington Place site will also change its logo and lifting tower lights to the symbolic colours of the rainbow flag. For the full timetable, visit bit.ly/2Oh2ubO.
