A film directed by a talented young Leeds teenager which aims to shine a light on mental health is set for its big premiere later this month.
Director Gage Oxley, 18, of Whinmoor, has hired out a screen at Showcase Cinema in Birstall to show ‘Beneath the Shadows’ - a film shot in an and around Leeds which aims to break the stigma around mental health.
It was created through the production company Six° Films, which he set up earlier this year with fellow film buffs, James Hodge and Alex Hull, both 19.
The trio met through the Leeds Film Academy and Media Fish - which works with youngsters in the city interested in film - and have turned their love of movies into film-making reality. Beneath the Shadows had a budget of £35,000, funded mainly through crowdfunding campaigns, and follows A-level student - played by Leeds actress Anna Keat - on her search for happiness, despite suffering from depression and anxiety.
Six° Films will also be staging a big red carpet event with a question and answer panel, allowing the audience to quiz the film’s cast and crew, in the event on November 28 at 6pm.
The film’s trailer was released earlier this year on You Tube and has already attracted nearly 3,000 views.
