Leeds police issue e-fit appearl after bogus caller targets elderly woman in Chapel Allerton

Police in Leeds today released an e-fit image of a man they would like to trace in connection with the burglary on Monday afternoon.

It happened at around 3pm when the suspect knocked on the back door of a house in Henconner Lane, Chapel Allerton.

He entered the house and spoke to the victim, a woman in her 70s, about maintenance which he claimed needed to be done to water pipes.

It was only around 10 minutes after the man left that the woman realised money had been stolen from her purse.

PC Enevoldsen, of Leeds District Crime Team said: “The suspect has clearly taken steps to try and distract the elderly victim in order to steel from her in her own home.

“The address is on a busy main road, and I believe there will have been a number of people in or around the area around time of the incident, who may have seen the suspect, or someone matching the Efit in the area.

"I would urge anyone who may have any information to come forward. Enquiries are on going.”
