The court heard the computer was examined and found to contain 183 illegal images at category A - the most serious level of offending.

Marshall, 55, was found to have started accessing the images on the day he bought the computer on May 31, 2016.

The court heard there was evidence that he had accessed internet chat rooms in which people discussed and shared abusive images.

Marshall pleaded guilty to two offences of possession of indecent images of children, two of making indecent images of children and one of possession of extreme pornographic images.

Kara Frith, mitigating, said Marshall had no previous convictions and had pleaded guilty to the offences at an early stage.

She said: "There is little to say about the offences.

"He fully accepts that he was the only person accessing the material."

Miss Frith said Marshall was willing to accept help to address his offending and had the full support of his family.

Marshall was given a 16 month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to take part in a 30-day rehabilitation activity programme.

Marshall must also go on the sex offender register for five years.
