Leeds nostalgia: Tickling the ivories
It's always great to hear a piano being played properly and in 1990 the air was filled with the blues at St. George's Hall, Bradford when the great Champion Jack Dupree took to the stage.
In 1967 Russian pianist Victoria Popstnikova was preparing to record an ambitious Tchaikovsky piece with the BBC and in 1984 Pat Hudson was playing what was thought to have been the first piano owned by Bradford born Frederick Delius.
Local dignitaries were keen to have a go as shown by Josephine O’Donnell, wife of the Leeds Mayor when she gave us a tune in the fifties.
Back in 1969 Dame Fanny Waterman was teaching Terence Judd who was just one of her pupils to debut at the Festival Hall, London. Dame Fanny, of course, is still going strong.
