Leeds nostalgia: How to meet people in 1993

Back in 1993 there was no facebook, no Tinder and definitely no MySpace, so if you wanted to find love you had a number of options, one of which was letting fate take you wither it would, so to speak, another was going out to a '˜pub', or a club, and yet another was advertising through the local paper.

One advert from November 1 read: “Genuine Man, 50 years, young at heart, considered attractive. Interests include dining out, cinema, holidays abroad, likes a drink, cosy nights in.

“Looking for a genuine, smart, attractive woman for lasting relationship. Preferably living in the Leeds area. Photo and phone number appreciated.”

The next advert read: “Femme Fatale, well almost. Wishes to meet similar man - not quite. Aged 35-45 for fun and possible relationship. Interests varied.”

A third advert read: “Asian Male (29), Westernised. Considerate, friendly natured, seeks lady (age and nationality not important) for evenings out. Friendship, hopeful long term. Photographs appreciated.”

One more: “Male, early 40s, green eyes, 5ft 8, fair hair. Not a millionaire. Wishes to meet lady for friendship.
