Leeds nostalgia: Gran catches bus for 28-mile round-trip (twice) every day... for just 15p

Dateline: December 1984: Leeds gran Rose Alder, 90, liked nothing more than catching the Number 9 bus near her home and sitting on it as it wound its way around a 28-mile circular route.

In fact, she liked it so much, she would sometimes stay on and go round twice, according to the report in the Yorkshire Evening Post on Wednesday December 5, 1984.

The pensioner was said to have undertaken the journey to relieve the boredom of being stuck at home.

She walked the 10 minutes from her home in West Park to catch the bus at Lawnswood but to keep things interesting, she would sometimes reverse the route by catching the bus from the other side of the road…

And the cost of her daily journey? Just 15 pence.
