Leeds nostalgia: Four Leeds lads digging for conservation in 1989

Here's a picture of four Leeds lads 'going wild' at their school in Guiseley.According to the YEP story from the day, they were 'digging up lumps of ground and messing about with water... all in the name of conservation.'

The four were, from left to right, Andrew Kathowski, Christopher Edwards, James Grill and Jonathan Thornton.

Headteacher Christine Hobson said: “I am very keen on teaching conservation and encouraging the children to be more aware of their surroundings.”

The four were planning to grow flowers on the ground and use an old bath filled with water to attract frogs and other aquatic life.

Mrs Hobson said: “It doesn’t look much at the moment because a lot of the work has not been done yet.”
