In 1932 the most famous comedy duo of all time, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy worked their magic on the city.

Miss Sarah Churchill, daughter of Sir Winston, opened a Harrogate boutique’s first fashion show in 1967 and five years later musical legend Roy Orbison popped in after playing at Batley Varieties.

They were the best of the Brits and in 1971 Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise showed off sharp suits and even sharper patter.

Dallowgill Moor above Ripon was the venue for Bing Crosby in 1976 when instead of “gone fishin’,” the superstar crooner “went shootin’.
