ArtForms, the music and arts service for Leeds City Council, runs the centres which meet every Saturday in term time.

People will be given chance to get in tune with the facilities this month when the centres open their doors to visitors.

Alex Wibrew, head of Horsforth Music Centre, said: “The real gold dust of the centres is found not just in the instruments or professional teachers but in the members who attend them. Attending a music centre is not just about learning how to play an instrument or how to sing; it can help children grow in confidence as well as helping people of all ages make new friends and meet people from different backgrounds and from across the city.”

The centres at Seacroft, Horsforth, Rothwell, Woodhouse, Boston Spa, Moortown and Guiseley offer opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to make music.

As well as tuition, they offer chances to join bands, orchestras and choirs - encompassing a broad range of music.

Guiseley and Rothwell music centres will be open for people to try out an instrument or find out what classes and bands are available to join, today (Saturday May 7), from 9am to midday.

Boston Spa, South Leeds, East Leeds, North Leeds and Horsforth music centres will hold their open days on Saturday, May 14.

The centres, which have been running for more than 40 years, aim to offer every family, every individual, in Leeds the opportunity to learn and make music, regardless of their situation. Lessons start from £10 per month.

There is no need to book for the open days.
