PUDSEY MP Stuart Andrew has pledged to support a charity’s bid to cut the number of drowning deaths.

The Conservative MP has signed up to the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) UK’s pledge to provide water safety education to all under 18s in the UK.

RLSS UK president Peter Moyes, said: “Tragically, more than 30 people drowned in just seven weeks during last summer’s heatwave.

“Around 400 people accidentally drown in the UK every year – one every 20 hours.”

Mr Andrew said: “I strongly support this campaign and will be highlighting this issue with schools in my constituency when I visit them.”

The Royal Life Saving Society’s annual Drowning Prevention Week campaign started today.
