Leeds man's comedy night raised many laughs and £2,600 for Parkinson's

A leeds man with Parkinson's has organised his sixth charity comedy night.

Mark Wilson, who was diagnosed with the condition more than eight years ago, hosted an event at The Leeds Laughter Lounge earlier this month.

The September 17 show within the Marriott Hotel raised £2,600 for Parkinson’s UK.

Mark, 48, said: “Over the past two-and-a-half years I have organised six comedy nights and raised over £18,000 for Parkinson’s UK and their Leeds branch. As my symptoms were getting worse and as my depression deepened, I wanted to find a way to distract myself from it all. It was through this that I found live comedy made me laugh and took my mind off my Parkinson’s for a while.”

The event featured performers like Monty Burns, Jonathan Mayor, Peter Brush, Amy Vreeke, Simon Lomas and Andy ‘Smug Roberts’ Wilky who all gave their time free of charge.

Paul Jackson-Clark, of Parkinson’s UK, said: “I hope Mark’s story will inspire others to sign up for one of his Comedy nights and if they missed this one, the next is Sunday, March 4 at the Marriott Hotel, Leeds.”
