A Leeds joiner has taken part in a very revealing dating show – where singletons are asked to strip each other off and lie on top of a bed while asking probing questions.
Tony Lovell, 38, went on the Discovery TLC show UNDRESSED in September in search of love after having been unlucky with relationships in the past.
He was led into a dark room where he met his date partner Jo-Anne for the first time.
He said: “I was so nervous – I’d never been on a blind date before.
“I’ve met people through friends and stuff like that, but to be in a position where I knew absolutely no-one to meet a stranger and strip off was terrifying.”
The programme aims to take a new look into the psychology of dating by putting blind date participants into positions of vulnerability in the hope that it accelerates intimacy.
The singletons meet in the room with just a double bed and a giant screen where they will have their 30-minute date.
They are then told to undress each other before jumping into the bed and answering questions posed on the screen.
When their time is up, the couples must make the potentially awkward decision between staying in bed and continuing the date or scrambling for their clothes and leaving the room.
But when father-of-one Tony first saw his partner, shop-worker Jo-Anne, 28, from Birmingham, he found himself instantly attracted.
“We really hit it off,” he said. “She’s a really great lady.”
The mood become more serious when they were asked to talk about their past.
Tony had a rocky previous relationship where his partner left him after getting pregnant by his best friend and he revealed all to Jo-Anne on the show.
He said: “It was really difficult because of course I’d had my heart broken.
“But Jo-Anne was really understanding and said that she’d also had rough relationships in the past.
“The crew in charge of the set were really great – they made me feel at ease.”
Lucky for Tony and Jo-Anne their date was a success and the couple have begun seeing each other.
Tony said: “The hardest part at the moment is the distance with me being in Leeds and Jo-Anne being in Birmingham.
“But she’s already come up to visit me and I’m going down to her next week.”
He added that he thinks the show is a “great idea”.
He said: “It breaks down all the boundaries so there is nowhere to hide.
“There’s no need to play games.”
UNDRESSED will be broadcast on TLC on Wednesday 19 October at 10pm.
