Leeds man's lucky escape after flat caught fire this morning

A man who was hurt managed to escape a blaze at a flat in Leeds.

Firefighters were called to Potternewton Gardens in Chapel Allerton at around 4.50am this morning (Thursday).

One man, who was inside, had already escaped the blaze when crews arrived.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "At 4.54am we received a call to Potternewton Gardens.

"This is a domestic flat fire. Upon arrival, we discovered the first floor was well alight.

"One male casualty was rescued before our arrival."

Crews from Moortown and Leeds attended the scene and extinguished the flames.
