Leeds literature festival is on the right frequency

Running from April 15 to 17, Seacroft-based Chapel FM’s Writing On Air festival aims to showcase creative talent in genres such as poetry, horror and fan fiction.

Studio audience places are available at some of the festival events while there will also be an opportunity to take part in an all-night ‘readathon’.

Chapel FM director of words, Peter Spafford, said: “We’re delighted to be broadcasting such an exciting and varied range of programmes in Writing On Air which can be enjoyed by being part of the studio audience or by listening live through www.chapelfm.co.uk.

“We’d love to hear from anyone who would like to read in the all-night readathon – the more the merrier, especially at 4am!”

Writers signed up for the festival include Hannah Stone, who said: “I’m involved with at least two programmes in Writing On Air.

“As a newcomer to radio, I’m really thrilled to be learning new ways of presenting my poetry.

“It’s great to meet other writers and it’s good to be stretched. I can’t wait for the festival.”

Another writer, Barney Bardsley, added: “I’m looking forward to celebrating our many quirks and creative diversions in one gorgeous weekend on-air feast.”

Chapel FM is supported by Arts Council England, Leeds City Council and the BIG Lottery Fund.

Additional backing for Writing On Air has come from the Ann Maguire Arts Education Fund.

Based in the old Seacroft Methodist Chapel on York Road, Chapel FM is home to two radio studios and a 70-seat in-the-round radio theatre auditorium.
