Leeds in line for property Oscars

Leeds has ten projects nominated in the 2016 RICS Yorkshire and Humber Awards in May.

Cookridge’s £2.1m Lighthouse School, one of the first specialist Autism schools in the country, is up for two gongs: building conservation and community benefit.

Also in the running for the building conservation prize is Leeds City College’s new Print Works campus. The former Alf Cooke print works on Hunslet Road is now a world class, modern teaching environment thanks to a £15m renovation

The city has projects listed in all eight award categories. Leeds Station’s new £20m southern entrance is in the running for an infrastructure award. While

TPP’s new £21m headquarters in Horsforth has been shortlisted for the commercial accolade. The IT company is also up for a design through innovation award. And two University of Leeds property schemes are also contesting the same innovation the award: Laidlaw Library and the university’s new multi-storey car park.

Meanwhile, two new office developments are vying for the commercial award: Central House, on St Paul’s Street, and 6 Wellington Place.

While ICONINC, a luxury eight-storey student accommodation development off Burley Road, is in contention for the residential award.

Lastly, Primal Gym, in the heart of Leeds Dock has been shortlisted for the tourism and leisure award for providing a revolutionary new approach to health and fitness by becoming the first gym in the UK to allow members to pay less, the more they exercise.

Chairman of the judging panel Rob Hindle, a director at White Hindle & Partners in Leeds, said: “Our shortlist of inspiring schemes is testament to the talent and exceptional skills of our region’s property professionals.”
