Leeds lantern festival makes a dazzling gesture in support of city charity

The organisers of the Christmas-themed Magical Lantern Festival – which is taking place in Roundhay Park from November 24 to January 1 – have announced a link-up with the Leeds-based Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Proceeds from ticket sales for an exclusive festival preview night at the park on Thursday, November 23, will go to the appeal, part of the legacy of the late Leeds cancer sufferer and fundraiser whose name it bears.

The same initiative raised more than £3,000 for the appeal when the festival visited Roundhay last year.

Appeal manager Kate Goldring said: “This really is a unique opportunity to see this year’s display before anyone else, with all proceeds helping us to make a difference in your community.

“Huge thanks to Weli Creative, the people behind the Magical Lantern Festival, as well as our creative partners Banana Kick for suggesting the partnership for a second year.”

Fundraising preview nights are also being held in aid of charities in London and Birmingham ahead of Magical Lantern Festival events running in the cities at the same time as the Leeds extravaganza.

A festival spokesman said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the public to celebrate their local community charities, while taking part in a fun and festive event with a rich cultural heritage.”
