Leeds landmark is princely location for new movie

A LEEDS landmark plays a supporting role in a new film that is scheduled for release later this month.

The Black Prince tells the story of the intriguing relationship between Queen Victoria and Maharajah Duleep Singh, the last King of Punjab. Parts of the film, it has now been confirmed, were shot at Harewood House.

Cast members include Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Shabana Azmi (City of Joy) and Amanda Root (The Iron Lady) as well as singer-poet Satinder Sartaaj, making his acting debut. Harewood’s historic rooms and stunning gardens have helped establish it as a popular location for camera crews, with Death Comes to Pemberley, Victoria and At Home with the Braithwaites among the TV shows that have been filmed there.

The Black Prince has a worldwide release date of Friday, July 21.
