Leeds Kirkgate '˜revival' continues with pace

New York House in Kirkgate, which is having a major re-fit by developers Rushbond.

New York House is part of developers Rushbond’s plan to revitalise the Kirkgate area, including the Corn Exchange and First White Cloth Hall.

Marketing company People’s Holdings will move its 85 staff into the building, which is next to the original I.J. Dewhirst Ltd drapery suppliers building, which has a historical ties to Michael Marks and Tom Spencer — co-founders of Marks & Spencer, after signing a ten-year lease to take over 14,000 square foot of the previously-empty upper floors.

The transformation of the space will include a basement break-out bar, speakers’ podium, mezzanine meeting pods and a new shop front.

New York House was acquired by property company Rushbond in September 2016.

The company recently announced plans for the Kirkgate area in the Yorkshire Evening Post, including investing in the “evolution” of the Grade I-listed Corn Exchange, with plans for a new cafe and new design features.
