Question marks remain over how nearly £5m of taxpayers’ money will be paid back after a part-complete city centre hotel site was put up for sale.
Property agent Lambert Smith Hampton has been appointed to sell the freehold interest in the unfinished 206-bedroom Hilton hotel scheme near Leeds Arena for offers in excess of £6m.
The project was part-funded by a taxpayer-backed loan of £4.8m from the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership. But concerns have now been raised about whether the loan will be paid back.
Councillor Andrew Carter, leader of the Conservative Group in Leeds, branded the saga a “sad and sorry tale of incompetence and evasion.”
