An internationally renowned dancing duo have taught the tango to lovers of the ballroom favourite at a series of sessions in Burley.

Los Ocampo – also known as married Argentinian couple Monica Romero and Omar Ocampo – have travelled the world teaching dancing for more than 30 years as well as performing with the Tango Pasion company.

The pair were invited to teach steps for two different tango dances to members of Tango Yorkshire.

Monica Romero said: “We taught the group a different style and could see how they progressed. It was good to see them enjoy themselves.”

Residents in Burley are also being invited to take part in a monthly tango ball which will take place tonight.

The Bailongo Porteño, will start at 8pm and last for four hours. It will feature an arrangement of different tango music and costs £7 to attend.

Yohann Le Grand, who is one of the tutors at Tango Yorkshire, said: “We teach and let people enjoy a very wide range of different types of tango dances.

“Tango is a lot of fun and we get a good turnout from the people of Burley.”

He said tango was established over 150 years ago and that the dances had evolved over time.

Mr Le Grand added: “This means that we have a lot to teach and we want to teach the people of Burley about each style.

“So we host dance events, where people can practice and enjoy some dancing, then we also get experts into the center so people can learn as well, which offers variety for everyone here in the area.”

The club, which formed in 1999, hosts the classes and events at its base at the New Burley Club, Burley Hill Drive, every Monday.

Beginners classes are held from 7pm to 8pm, improvers from 8pm to 9pm and a weekly social open dance session – known as a Milonga – from 9pm to 11pm.

The group will be hosting a number of other events throughout the summer months in Burley, with workshops and freestyle sessions.

Los Ocampo will return to the Burley group on December 6.
