A CONSULTATION event is taking place today over plans for a new park-and-ride site in Leeds.

People can give their views on the proposed Temple Green scheme from midday to 6pm on Briggate.

If the congestion-busting project gets the go-ahead, the 1,000-space site would be constructed on land near junction 45 of the M1.

Dedicated buses would run from the site into the city centre every 10 minutes.

A survey about the plans can also be accessed online via the www.wymetro.com/TempleGreen-PR web page.

Proposals for the Temple Green scheme have been drawn up following the success of an 800-space park-and-ride site which opened last summer next to Leeds United’s Elland Road ground. More than 68,000 cars used the site during its first year of operation.

Coun Richard Lewis, Leeds City Council’s executive member for regeneration, transport and planning, recently hailed the Elland Road project for making a “big contribution” to reduced traffic and improved air quality.
