Hundreds of YEP readers have voted for their hospitality hero – and we can now reveal the winner.

The best of the city’s hospitality sector met at the Queen’s Hotel last night for the YEP-backed Leeds Hotels and Venues Association (LHVA) Awards.

Television presenter Harry Gration hosted the event, which was attended by 240 people.

Readers had the chance to vote for the winner of the People’s Choice category and after hundreds of votes flooded in, Janet McAteer from Hilton Leeds City was the winner.

She was separated by just 11 votes from her closest contender, Bewleys Hotel commis chef John Shields.

Gordon Jackson, chair of LHVA and general manager of Thorpe Park Hotel and Spa said: “For the hotels and venues of the city, this is one of the most important dates in the year – the chance for staff to gain recognition for their work, which often goes on behind the scenes.

“The quality of this year’s candidates is reflective of the city’s growing reputation.”

The Top Team award went to the concierge team at The Queens.

Unsung Hero was won by Ian Richards at the The Cosmopolitan Hotel.

The Customer Service – Front of House winner was Leo Higney from Malmaison, whilst the Customer Service – Back of House award went to John Rogers at the Cosmopolitan Hotel.

The Mentor award was won by Clare Marsden from Leeds United and the Rising Star award went to Shaun Levitt from Thorpe Park.
