Leeds has happiest workers - if they're employed by the council

“It is therefore really great news that the work we do in turn as a council and employer to try to deliver a positive, supportive and welcoming environment for staff has been recognised through this survey.”

The results were based on reviews left by visitors on individual company pages on Indeed’s website.

Algorithms were used to rank companies using a variety of factors, such as average rating, number of reviews and the history of job openings.

Oxfam topped the list, with 1,000 review being posted for the charity.

Local authorities – which have seen their budgets cut by billions since 2010 – scored poorly with employees.

Leeds was the only city council to make the list. It employs 14,578 people, 12,400 on a full-time basis, for jobs such as museum curators, call centre staff and refuse workers.
