Eight leeds MPs have demanded a meeting with environment minister Liz Truss about Leeds’ flood defences.

A letter to Truss signed by the MPs said: “We need to support our community and the businesses affected at this devastating time, and would appreciate the time to meet with you to discuss how we can urgently improve our cities flood defences.” The meeting will be on January 20.

Leeds West MP Rachel Reeves said: “It is critical that a city like Leeds does not experience such disruption again, especially when it can be so easily avoided by the building of flood defences along the river Aire.

“This is why all eight MPs have come together to make sure that Leeds gets a fair share of any Government funding promised for flood defences in the North.”
