Leeds Dock welcomes back British Street Food Awards

Have your say

The British Street Food Awards Northern and Scottish heats are heading to Leeds Dock this weekend as part of the city’s Waterfront Festival.

Joining the Leeds Waterfront Festival at Leeds Dock for the second year, the British Street Food Awards are open from Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, from 11am each day.

The heats see 15 of the region’s best street food traders battling it out for your vote in the largest street food awards in Europe.

Organised by street food expert Richard Johnson, the awards are set to double in size this summer. Established as the toughest street food competition in the world, the British Street Food Awards will showcase a cooking showdown at Leeds Dock, and the winner will be invited to a live, national cook-off, judged by the general public and Michelin-starred chefs.

Visitors to Leeds Dock this weekend will have the chance to taste, discover and vote for your street food favourite from a stellar line up of 15 different traders from Leeds, Manchester, Hull, Sheffield and Edinburgh. You choose your trader, try out a dish from their menu and then place your vote.

Other activities at Leeds Dock for the Leeds Waterfront Festival this weekend include the Dragon Boat Races, which will see 17 teams competing in heats throughout the day from 10am-5pm on Saturday 24th June.

Founded in 2009, the British Street Food Awards have celebrated great street dishes for the last 8 years. Last year’s heats at Leeds Dock attracted thousands of visitors and with the number of food traders doubled they are hoping to welcome many more down this weekend.

Street food traders from Leeds include Mr D’s Magnificent Pie Machine, The Baking Biker, Sela, Gondola Raclette, Pizza Loco and Ruby’s Street Kitchen from Ravensthorpe in West Yorkshire. They will be battling it out for your votes against Tikk’s Thai Kitchen, Dim Sum Su, The Blue Caribou Canteen, Streat Balls, The Chipsmyth, Primestreetfood, Pickled Porker, ChaatCart and Kerbedge who are all from across Scotland and the north of England.

Guests can vote for their street food favourite through the British Street food app, available in App Store and Google Play.

Voting starts on Saturday, June 24, and closes at 3.30pm on Sunday, June 25, with the winner announced at 4pm.
