Leeds dad raises £10,000 for charity in his daughter's memory

The second annual Abbie’s Day at Cookridge Hall Golf Club saw 27 teams take part to beat last year’s inaugural fundraising total. Mr Richardson set up the annual golf day to honour Abbie Richardson’s memory and to support the charity that helped throughout her treatment when she was first diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in July 2010 and in later years when the cancer returned.

He said: “A great day was had by all, with bacon butties and prizes for those taking part. Unfortunately, no-one won the hole in one top prize of £10,000, but there’s always next year.”

The event also saw golfers compete in the Chip in to a Dingy competition, where participants coughed up the cash to have a go at chipping a golf ball into a dingy floating on the golf course’s lake. The winner from 2016 Keith Mitchell kept his crown and also won a golfing holiday.

Heather Bowen, trust fundraising manager said: “We’ve been so impressed with the incredible enthusiasm of Dave and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in Abbie’s Day. This money will go towards desperately needed services for local young people with cancer.”
