Leeds Crown Court has been evacuated as the judge in the Jordan Burling case was beginning his sentencing remarks.

The sentencing of the 18-year-old's relatives Dawn Cranston, 45, Denise Cranston, 70, and Abigail Burling, 25, has been temporarily interrupted after a fire alarm went off this morning.

Mr Justice Spencer had just begun his sentencing remarks when the court had to be cleared and the building evacuated.

He said: "It is profoundly disturbing and almost beyond belief that Jordan Burling, a young man of 18, should have been allowed to die in his own home here in Leeds in 2016, in the bosom of his family home through the failure of three of you to take elementary steps."

The sentencing is expected to resume soon.
