Leeds choir to toast 100 years with special concert

The choir have provided a soundtrack to the city for a century, performing in churches, cathedrals and concert halls throughout Yorkshire, England and Europe.

Sounding the Century, which takes place at Leeds Town Hall on Saturday (September 24) at 7.30pm, will celebrate the historic achievement.

Featuring some of the finest voices and brass in the region, the special performance will include a wide range of music including folk tunes, pop classics, choral favourites and songs from the shows as the choir sings through favourites from the last century.

The celebrated special guests all hail from Leeds including 15 times Ladies British Barbershop Champions the White Rosettes and championship brass in the form of Rothwell Temperance Band, making this a unique musical celebration in the city.

The choir have been under the Direction of Tim Knight since 2014.

He said: “The men take their music-making seriously and are planning a fantastic show for the people of Leeds.

“The choir has evolved and departed from much of the traditional male voice choir repertoire, drawing on influences from men’s choirs overseas whilst still paying homage to the choir’s roots.

“Our aim has always been to sing the widest variety of music, so long as it’s good of its type.

“We can’t think of a better way of celebrating 100 years, than on stage of Leeds Town Hall, with some of the best voices and brass in the city.

“It’s going to be a very special evening.”
