Leeds children's centre fee rise is approved

Children's centre fees in Leeds are to rise by £4 a day to bring prices in line with the private nursery sector.

The YEP reported last month that Leeds City Council was considering raising its rates from £41-a-day to £43 from January - before a second hike to £45 next September. Decision-makers said most parents affected received a subsidy, and the overall cost to families would still be below the average market cost. However parents accused the authority of “making it harder for both parents to go out to work.”

Now a report just signed off by the council’s children’s services directorate confirms the fee increase.

It says the council has to increase fees, but will do it “while maintaining the highest quality childcare for our most vulnerable children”.
