A chef from Leeds has won a place in the final of a nationwide competition to encourage young chefs in the UK to learn about South African cooking.
Kevin Hughes, 25, who studies at Leeds City College, beat chefs from all over the country to reach the final eight in the head-to-head cook off final of the first ever Cook South Africa! competition.
He was delighted to reach the final of the nationwide contest launched to inspire the UK to learn about South African fruit and take inspiration from South African traditional dishes.
Students were asked to submit their own three-course South African menu, incorporating South African peaches, nectarines, plums, apples and pears. The top prize was training at Margot Janse’s award winning Tasting Room in South Africa.
