Leeds charity raises £30,000 at ball

The fundraising ball at the Queens Hotel celebrated 45-years of PhysCap. The volunteer-led charity was set up in 1973 to support physically and mentally disabled youngsters across the region.

More than 300 people attended the anniversary ball on January 20, which featured a performance from the singer Jonathan Ansell from pop-opera boyband G4.

There was also a silent auction and a raffle with donated prizes.

Co-chairman Daniel Gray said: “I joined the PhysCap committee 19 years ago and I still burst with pride each and every time we help a child or family in need of our support. We’ve funded everything from life-changing operations, specialist equipment, to specially adapted children’s playgrounds so that all kids can play together regardless of any disability they may have.

“The ball was a celebration of how far we have come and a chance to thank all those individual volunteers and businesses for their commitment and contribution to PhysCap over the years. Our objective for the ball was to celebrate, educate and donate which we have exceeded beyond any expectations. We will continue to work hard to help those in need and we welcome the opportunity to speak to local businesses who are looking for a charity to support in 2018.”

Over the years, PhysCap has raised in excess of £1.5m. Kaiser Chiefs lead singer Ricky Wilson is one of its patrons.
