The manager of a Leeds cafe located next to the lake where a body was found today has explained the horrifying moment it was spotted in the water.
Police are appealing for information after being called to Waterloo Lake at the beauty spot at around 9.19am.A man who was out jogging had seen a body in the water near to the cafe in Park Avenue.
This cafe overlooks Waterloo Lake and the boathouse, near which the body was seen.
Cafe manager Stuart Blair said: “The gentleman who found her asked us to go down there with him, just to confirm he wasn’t seeing things. We realised what it was and he phoned the police. It wasn't a pleasant experience.
"The police were here pretty quickly. There were five or six fire engines, an ambulance and police cars. They cordoned off the area. It was a bit of a shock.
"We hadn't opened the cafe yet. We kept it closed until lunchtime, around noon."
He said the staff kept the blinds pulled down until police had finished working on the scene and then opened up.
Mr Blair added: "We’ve had people coming in this afternoon and not have a clue. It was quite difficult for us to get back in that routine of working again, but the staff have been brilliant.”
