Leeds business saves the day in the wake of blaze

FOOTBALL club volunteers left despairing after an arson attack have been able to run holiday sessions for children thanks to the generous actions of a local business.

A recent fire at Guiseley FC damaged turnstiles, a roller shutter door, a kit room and the referees’ changing room.

It also destroyed items such as bibs, cones and balls not covered by the insurance.

But the Wetherby Whaler chain came to the rescue, donating money for replacements up front before starting a fundraising drive in its Guiseley branch.

Kitchen manager David Finlay and mascot Wally Whale even turned up at the club’s half-term coaching course to show their support.
