The group, which was formed in April, is made up of older people in Scholes who are learning to play brass instruments from scratch.

The group was set up as part of the Elmete Elderberries project, which is delivered by St. Philips Church with support from Rural Action Yorkshire.

It is funded by Leeds Older People’s Forum as part of the Time to Shine Programme.

However, the band desperately need to raise £1,250 to pay for a Cornet, Euphonium and a Baritone instrument as they currently only have them on loan.

The group meets once a week at St. Philips to socialise and for some members they are learning music for the first time.

Becky Bracey, Leeds Community Connect Project Co-ordinator from Rural Action Yorkshire, said: “We believe you’re never too old to learn an instrument – it can improve your memory, confidence and general wellbeing.

“Our brass group have made great progress and are on target to play a carol at our Christmas concert.

“We would be delighted if a local business or individual would come forward to sponsor this group.

“The brass group at Elmete Elderberries has gone from strength to strength but they need your help.

“It would be a massive confidence boost for them to have their own instruments and a donation or sponsorship would enable them to play at Christmas.”
