Leeds barista Freddy Whittle has proven he’s a cup above the rest after reaching the final of Costa’s annual Barista of the Year contest.
Freddy, 21, who has worked at the Woodhouse Lane Costa for the past two years, has beaten colleagues from across the north to battle it out in the ‘champion of champions’ global final in January.
Challenges include an espresso race – to create the ‘perfect’ espresso in a minute – and creating their own signature drink for judges.
Freddy, whose drink was a mix of coffee, milk and syrups, said: “It’s amazing. All the finalists were strong competitors so it feels wonderful to have been selected for the finals.”
The finals take place on January 23 and 24 in London.
