A BRAND new festival aims to bring hundreds of up and coming talent to the city.

The week-long RECON festival will be held across dozens of venues in Leeds and Bradford, with the aims of bringing together emerging talent and prompting new collaborations between the music, sonic art and film sectors.

Musician Andy Abbott is a RECON steering group member and a Fellow in Music at Bradford University.

He said: “I can’t wait for RECON and I am so happy to be part of making it happen.

“The theme of ‘pioneering musicians and artists’ has allowed us to curate a programme that mixes well-known international acts with local – often under-appreciated – legends, and bring together different disciplines, genres and communities.

“We hope RECON will encourage people to visit both cities and find out more about their vibrant underground cultural scenes.”

He added :“I think the festival will showcase the independent, left-field, idiosyncratic and radical nature of the culture in the Leeds and Bradford area, of which it has a long and strong tradition!”

Already in the musical line-up are post-punk group Gang of Four, Vibracathedral Orchestra, Hookworms, Cut Hands, Black Pus and Oneohtrix Point Never.

Venues involved in the festival include the Brudenell Social Club, Howard Assembly Rooms, Hyde Park Picture House, the New Bradford Playhouse, Delius Arts and Cultural Centre and Wharf Chambers.

Tickets for the event, which runs from September 22 to 29, are available to buy from Crash Records and Jumbo Records in Leeds, as well as online at reconfest.co.uk.
