Leeds agency's staff are engaged in efforts to raise cash

The Olympics may be over but the '˜Elympics' are very much up-and-running at Leeds digital agency Engage.

Staff at the agency are aiming to raise thousands of pounds for four local good causes while they are out running, swimming, hiking, cycling or rowing.

The distances they clock up are tracked by fitness app Strava and Engage donates a set amount for each mile covered.

Two of the beneficiaries are Eccup charity Lineham Farm and Harrogate-based Open Country, which works to help people with disabilities to access the countryside.

The Elympics (www.elym.pics) are also raising funds for Leeds’s ToastLoveCoffee community café and the Harehills community space CATCH.

Engage director Alex Willcocks said: “Although working in digital is undeniably a fantastic way to spend your week, it’s certainly not the most active, with people regularly spending six or more hours a day sat at their desks.

“We wanted to encourage an increased level of activity in everyone’s lives but in a more creative and rewarding way than simply handing out gym memberships to the keen few.”

The YEP recently launched a new Digital City platform in partnership with Sky Betting & Gaming.

The platform is designed to highlight the giant strides being made by a sector that boasts around 3,000 organisations in Leeds.
