Fans of Coronation Street saw double yesterday as Leeds actress Liz Dawn attended the unveiling of a new waxwork figure of her soap alter-ego Vera Duckworth at Madame Tussauds in Blackpool.

Vera and her long-suffering husband Jack were picked as the latest famous faces to be immortalised in wax following a poll of visitors to the attraction.

And their addition to the Tussauds ‘family’ was given the seal of approval by Liz, who spent 34 years with Coronation Street before bidding farewell to the cobbles in 2008.

She said: “The figures are amazing. If he was here, Jack would say ‘you look a lot better in wax’!”

Bill Tarmey, who played Jack, passed away in 2012 but his widow Alma joined Liz at yesterday’s unveiling.
