Leeds-based airline Jet2.com has landed its workers and those in the surrounding area with a retail and social boost.

The firm, which bases its admin and office HQ at The Mint in Holbeck has acquired more floorspace at the Ingram Street building.

After taking on the ground and also the first and second floors Jet2,com has submitted a planning application to Leeds City Council for a scheme of works that will see the ground floor fitted out to provide conference, meeting and office space but also two retail units and a cafe or bar.

It is not yet known which retailers will take the space being made available but it is set to further boost the retail offering that is slowly building up in that area.

For several years Jet2 occupied levels three to seven of The Mint but have just taken on the extra floors making the UK’s fourth largest airline the sole tenant of the site.

Within the planning documents the firm said the proposals were “modest works to enable their effective utilisation of the existing office building.”

In addition to the works to accommodate the shops and the cafe there will be access points and a new main staff entrance.

Flood defences are also going to be ramped up following general discussions on the retail side of the application.

While flooding from rivers and sewers was ruled out as a cause for concern “risk from ground water flooding should be seriously considered”.

An early warning system will be installed and measures to minimise the route that water can take to get into the basement will be installed.
